The second edition of the Tunisian Contest Local Produce Competition is underway and all stakeholders in the public and private sectors of the sector promise to expand the next edition to be held in June 2019.
On the strength of the success of the first edition of the Tunisian Contest for Terroir Products, the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries launched the preparation of the second edition of the Competition. Biannuel, the competition is organized by the Agency for the Promotion of Agricultural Investments (APIA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries and in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and SMEs, of the Tunisian Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts and the Tunis Science City with the support of the “Access to Markets for Agrifood and Terroir Products Project” (PAMPAT) implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development (UNIDO) and financed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
If the first edition saw the participation of 236 local products, the different partner structures as well as the private operators have made proposals to expand the list of local products eligible to participate in the Competition.
The Tunisian Contest calendar is as follows:
- January to March 2019: Registration period for participation in the Contest
- June 18 to 20, 2019: Tasting of products in the running
- June 28, 2019: Competition Medal Ceremony
- 29th and 30th of June 2019: Market of local products awarded
