As wooden spoons, bowls, trays, bowls shaped in Sidi Bouzid are found on the shelves of stores and major European brands without the buyer knowing their origin.

From October 2011, after a thorough diagnosis of the value chain and identifying problems in the craft sector of olive wood from Sidi Bouzid, in partnership with UNIDO ISIC Foundation funding and set up a series of workshops. You should know that the work of the olive wood supports over 1,000 families in the region of Sidi Bouzid and that this sector has a high growth potential especially in foreign markets.

When we know that in some Asian countries, crafts represent more than 10% of GDP while in Tunisia it hardly reaches 3.8%, one starts dreaming about the possibilities of development of the Tunisian craft industry .

The diagnosis therefore highlights the problems encountered and artisans that are related to them vis-à-vis exporters addiction, rationalization of inadequate management of their stock and product quality. The project supported by UNIDO and the CITI Foundation then their aim to support regional and save the final product quality entrepreneurship through improved techniques.

Workshops are then put in place, they relate wood drying techniques, marketing assistance and advice to the rationalization of the workshop. 30 olive-craftsmen from Sidi Bouzid are affected by this program in 2012 and Zytuna design, artisans grouping, is the fruit of this work. The project is expected to continue in 2013 with a target of 500 artisans. For this, UNIDO is still currently seeking funding … to the wise …
