On the sidelines of the first edition of the National Competition of Terroir Products
under the leadership of the Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency and with the
collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries,
the Ministry of Industry and SMEs, the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts and
Tunis Science City, a seminar dedicated to the first official flirt (before the engagement) between tourism and local products is organized on December 8, 2017 at the Cité des Sciences in the morning.

At a time when Tunisia seems to be banking on the diversification of tourism and
on the promotion of cultural heritage in all regions of Tunisia, many private initiatives for the establishment of guesthouses and rural cottages are being set up. These support the efforts of the public sector to encourage agritourism. The promotion of local products comes at the right time to support this effort and to ensure that the alternative tourism offer is perceived as authentic and unique by tourists.

According to the inventory of local products realized in 2016 under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture, Tunisia has a total of 220 flagship products spread over all areas of the country that could be valued through tourism tours gourmet. Combining tourism and local products
The seminar “Combining Tourism and Local Products”, which will be organized on the occasion of the medal ceremony of the National Competition of Terroir Products on December 8 will bring together the various stakeholders to diversify the tourism offer across the regions of Tunisia around local products.

The seminar program makes it possible to return to the

  • Presentation of the regulatory framework and financial incentives for Agritourism
    in Tunisia
  • Presentation of the activities put in place by the Tunisian public structures to promote alternative tourism around local products
  • Presentation of international experiences on how to combine tourism and
    terroir
  • Initiate a reflection on how to promote further integration of local products in tourist circuit

The seminar and the competition are part of the support activities of the “Market Access Project for Agrifood and Terroir Products” (PAMPAT) implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization  (UNIDO) and funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
