If you think that the world championship of couscous takes place in Tunisia, think again! This long-awaited culinary event, which attracts many gourmands, fans and professionals for years, is held in San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily.

This year, the Tunisian Association of Professionals of Culinary Art (ATPAC) takes part in the event.


The team of Tunisia defends the colors of the country for the competition but especially participates in its promotion. There is nothing more convivial than a good meal to bring together cultures, ideas, people … And make you want to discover a country!

The festival of San Vito Lo Capo, which is in Sicily, grows and is professionnalise from year to year. Now, the event captures the attention of the world, the press, sponsors …

According to the newspaper “Le Monde”, 100,000 attendances, 10,000 tickets sold, 5,000 liters of Sicilian wine, 80 public and private sponsors, 10 national and satellite TV companies, 30 types of cuisines, 40,000 servings of couscous , 20,000 servings of Sicilian cakes, 200 liters of extra virgin olive oil, 8 countries from 3 continents, 50,000 accesses per year to the site of more than 40 countries, including Japan, the Philippines, Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and the Seychelles.


The event is taking off and Tunisia has participated in great strength this year. Competitive with the best leaders of the world, the team of Tunisia shone. An international jury of journalists and industry experts awarded the best couscous prize to Tunisian chefs Billel Wechtati (restaurant Le Baroque) and Taieb Bouhadra (restaurant El Ali).

This year ten countries were competing: Italy, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, France, Israel, Morocco, Palestine, Senegal, the United States and Tunisia.

To remember that Angola received an identical prize by the Technical Jury and that Senegal won the prize of the most original couscous.
