The event will be celebrated on September 27, 2013. The Tunisian South and Saharan Tourism will be honored during the celebration.
This celebration was dedicated to the Tunisian south with the start of the high season coinciding with this event. A program of festivities will take place largely in Tozeur and surrounding areas in a program developed by the Ministry of Tourism. It will focus on the organization of a large tourist promotion operation and worship, the holding of an international forum on the history of water conservation techniques, the organization of animation events in the southern areas and the promotion of water circuits in the region. Domestic and foreign historians and representatives of associations concerned with the theme will be associated with these events. Two lectures will be delivered : on the issue of the relationship between tourism and water, and on the circuit of the epic water, memory and local development in Tozeur.
Distinctions were awarded to students with university research on water as well as small business revolving around the tourist activity such as tourist guides, drivers of tourist vehicles or employees of tourist establishments. The choice of Southern Tunisia for the global event celebration was well received by industry professionals who believe that the approach will have a largely positive impact for a region that experienced a serious crisis in particular in tourism.
But beyond the promotion of Saharan tourism it should be noted that the theme of World Tourism Day should highlight the will of tourism to play its role and contribution in conserving water. A role that is related to the decision of the General Assembly of the United Nations to namely : 2013 The International Year of Cooperation in The field of Water. It serves to highlight that the tourism sector assumes its responsibility in achieving broader goals in terms of sustainability.
Tourism, said the world tourism organisation for the economic sector , which weighs more than a trillion dollars, is a powerful force capable of meeting this challenge by providing effective solutions for better water management with over a billion of international visitors each year, this sector can be an important driver awareness and change in behavior .
World Tourism Day will be an opportunity to analyze the challenges of water management in tourism and measures taken by the tourism industry to promote and protect water resources while having a positive impact on local populations tourist destinations.
