Tunisia is one of the countries in the world where the areas dedicated to the cultivation of prickly pear trees are the most important. Not less than 5731 ha are worked by more than 800 farmers.

But it is from the fruit that the oil is extracted. To extract a single liter of prickly pear oil, it takes about a ton of figs. The extraction is carried out mechanically by cold pressure and without any solvent. It takes 30 pounds of seeds to get a liter of oil. Each seed contains more than 5% pure oil. The liter of oil costs about 1000 euros on the world market and 1800 Dt on the local market.

Sensing the rising wave of this product for about 5 years, Tunisia takes the opportunity to fly and puts everything in action to position itself on the global market of organic cosmetics tour especially. Although the organic cosmetics sector has scarcely gained 2.3% market share in the global and international cosmetics market, the sector expects a 10% growth until 2019 according to the Kline Institute. The market has barely begun to make a segmentation between natural and organic cosmetics, certified cosmetics and natural cosmetics. The trend is clearly to the growth of organic and natural cosmetics sales. They register + 5% per year since 2011. (€ 460 million in 2016
