This has been a working session held yesterday in Tunis in the presence of Mr. Elyes FAKHFAKH tourism minister and attended by several professionals in the South region and the presidents of national federations and the hostelries and travel agencies. A meeting which aims to examine a weak state and to implement urgent solutions to overcome the difficult course and save the current Saharan season. This was said the tourism minister has stressed the need to improve air accessibility of the destination and on improving product quality and environmental degradation which has become worrisome .

Today, the minister stresses that the effort should be focused on economic treatment of the situation in order to restore the confidence of operators and enhance flows to southern Tunisia adding that structurally the Saharan tourism figures a good phase in the strategy of development of tourism in Tunisia in 2016. The professionals attending reported that the deficit of activities down more debt tourist units and spawned the closure of several hotels and the loss of more than 600 direct jobs.

For the revival of the sector they offered exceptional promotion budget for the region and the adoption of a rescue plan that will emanate professionals and whose contours are already identified.

Two proposals approved by the Minister of Tourism which also states that a special budget will be allocated to support airlines serving the southern region. A decision that should be taken in the coming days.

During this meeting several Saharan tourism promotion deals were announced with a eductour of Spanish travel agents in Tozeur, press trips for French journalists, Chinese and Russian as well as radio campaigns in Switzerland, Germany and Belgium….

The weekend of diplomats in southern Tunisia.

Moreover, at the initiative of the ministry of tourism ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Tunisia were invited to discover the many tourist and cultural riches of southern Tunisia and during the weekend 7-8 and 9 December 2012. The visit of the diplomats will lead them in the governorates of Tozeur and Kebili and will be accompanied by several promotional activities relating to culture and gastronomy of the region. A mimi- Douz festival will be especially dedicated to diplomats and with more demonstrations relating the customs and daily life of the southern regions.
