This approval is an international recognition of civilizational space of the island of Djerba and its natural and cultural features which make it a privileged site in accordance with international standards allowing the inscription on the World Heritage List, says TAP .
Naceur Abid, President of Djerba backup Association recently held a press conference in which he introduced in this respect, the events that will take place from 20 August to raise awareness in Jerbans the importance of their role in the preservation of environmental and architectural features of their city and its monuments and archaeological sites, for it assumes its new role of World Heritage, said the same source.
The program includes scientific communications and intervention of specialists and experts in the fields of heritage, Islamic archeology, contemporary history and geography.
Traveling exhibitions that crisscross all regions Djerba, documentary films, workshops on djerbien craft heritage and an evening called ” Djerba, myth World Heritage ”, are also planned in this context. For the record, Djerba Saving Association presented since 1994, a request to UNESCO to register Djerba Island World Heritage.
The proposal was accepted but has not been possible because of the carelessness of the government of the former regime, noted officials of the association.
