“Alf thneya we thneya”, in its 29th episode, 1001Tunisia capsule sponsored by La Badira (https://www.facebook.com/labadira/) and its Spa by Clarins, invite you to discover a particular address, in an even more particular island; Djerba.

The story began 55 years ago with a hotel; a special hotel with even more special destiny, the Ulysse Palace. Initiated in 1963 by Mohamed Habib Bourguiba, Ulysse Palace is the result of a political will; that of a President who saw great for his “small” country he often said. Suddenly, he built four luxury hotels in Monastir, Bizerte, Gafsa and Djerba.

Named Ulysse Palace, the Djerba Hotel is the one that best resists time and people. It knows an exceptional destiny. Adorned with assets as large as an immense area, a simple and sophisticated local and typical architecture and an unparalleled facade facing the sea place the hotel immediately in the courtyard of the major addresses of the southern Mediterranean. The success is such that the structure receives Yasser Arafat, Douraid Lahham, Omar Cherif, but also Françoise Sagan, Juliette Greco, and many other stars.

Today named Radisson Blu Ulysses Resort and Thalasso Djerba, the hotel is still very busy. Property of UTIC group, which bought it during its privatization and for which it was the first commitment in the sector of the hotel industry, it is totally renovated in 2010.

Proud and full of passion for the hotel as for the island, the General Manager of the hotel Mohamed Jrad takes care of all the details with meticulousness. He is one with the structure and speaks about it: “On Saturday, March 24, 2018, we celebrated the 55th anniversary of the Ulysse Palace, an event was organized to mark the great history of this establishment which, in its own way , the launch of tourism throughout Tunisia with this concern to participate in the balance of foreign trade (foreign exchange) At that time he also had the mission to give a boost of quality to the Tunisian hotel industry.

In its own way a few decades later, the Ulysse Palace remains a valiant admiral and contributes to the establishment of a tempo of quality, profitability and attractiveness for the destination Djerba.

Mohamed Jerad adds: “This hotel represents a lot of things for tourism on the island of Djerba, since it was the initiator of an investment movement around the island. place in the heart of the Djerbians themselves since it has been at the forefront of the launch of tourism in Djerba where about 80% of the population lives directly and indirectly tourism “.

To celebrate the event the Ulysse Palace has published a book and has set up a photo exhibition in the hotel lobby, which will be available all year long, with beautiful photos, in black and white and color, which revive the entire history of Ulysses Palace.

Today the Ulysses Palace is living proof that taking care of the inheritance is essential for a country to advance. All societies need to create value, employment and prosperity and at a time when the Tunisian hotel portfolio is becoming obsolete, this hotel is proof that success is the result of strategy, investment and motivation. In its 2018 version, the Ulysse Palace is adapted to the needs of the tourists of tomorrow. It is a stable and sustainable product that saves the profitability we need to strengthen the national economy. Many hotels have unfortunately not had this chance. We cite as an example the Sahara Palace in Nefta, or the Djerba Menzel or the Gafsa Palace.

That said, a new face of the Tunisian hotel industry is being forged. Huge renovations are underway and augur great days ahead in Sousse, Djerba, Hammamet. Strongly that the modernization affects all the hotel park of the destination and helps Tunisia to recover its form and its radiation of yesteryear.
