The Design Hub, the first of its kind in the country, is an initiative within the framework of cooperation between the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the National Office of Handicrafts ( GNTB). It is a multi-service platform that aims to support the creative and cultural sector in Nabeul with a focus on the ceramic value chain.
Support services will be offered to all players in the creative and cultural industry sector: designers, professionals, entrepreneurs, students, industrialists, etc.
With an exhibition and marketing space, a cybercafé, a Fab-Lab and a co-working space for companies, the Design Hub offers a series of activities, services and events that meet the specific needs of each of the players in the creative sector. These services, ranging from the sponsorship program to incubation workshops, as well as conferences and technical trainings, will allow the different actors of the sector to exchange, cooperate, gain expertise in new techniques and areas of expertise.
The Design Hub will enable those accessing their services to increase their competitiveness in order to access new markets and enhance their economic opportunities, while promoting design, culture and creativity as a source of economic added value and reinforcement. territorial competitiveness.
The establishment of the Design Hub, is part of the activities of the project “Creative Mediterranean” “Support for the development of clusters in cultural and creative industries in the Southern Mediterranean”. Creative Mediterranean is a collaborative project funded by the European Union and Italy, and implemented by UNIDO.
The objective of the project is to improve the competitiveness and creativity of the creative and cultural industries in the 7 participating countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia) in order to access new national and international markets and develop economic activity and employment.
In Tunisia, under the banner “Creative Tunisia”, this program covers a wide range of professions, including ceramics, linens, mosaics and crafts. It offers selected clusters, namely Nabeul and El Jem, a series of technical assistance projects to strengthen their capacities, encouraging entrepreneurial cooperation, but also improving production and strengthening collaboration between different actors in the value chain.
The results of the first phase of the project in Tunisia include the creation of at least 5 companies and 60 direct jobs, the development of more than 50 new collections integrating Tunisian cultural heritage with design, increased sales and figures supported businesses, among others.
