A tribute to the filmmaker Kalthoum Bornaz will be made in Paris as part of an exceptional evening on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. The program is deployed as follows:

The evening of 7 March will be held in the cinema “La Clef” during which 5 short films of young Tunisian filmmakers will be presented. Then, it is the turn of the film of Kalthoum Bornaz, “Three characters in quest of a theater”, to be diffused.

The evening of 9 March will take place in a small room in 19 °, and two short films by Kalthoum Bornaz will also be broadcasted: “Regard de mouette” and “La forêt d’el Medfoun”.

Kalthoum Bornaz, known as Kalthoum l’Etoile on her Facebook profile is no more.
She died in a terrible accident in this early autumn of 2016. A time that she would have described as “kweyel rommane” naps grenadines. A time when she enjoyed profiting of Hammamet in her second home in the back season.

Born on August 14, 1945, kalthoum Bornaz was born in Tunis in a bourgeois family and spent a golden childhood in the Rue de Pacha with an exceptional mother; The famous Miss Amira, Headmaster of the school for girls in Rue el Pacha.

Kalthoum Bornaz studied arts at the University of Tunis and continued her studies by studying cinema at the Institute of Cinematographic Studies (IDHEC). She belonged to the first generation of female filmmakers in Tunisia including Moufida Tlatli, Selma Baccar, etc.

The filmmaker fought hard at a time for the rescue of the Municipal Theater of Tunis, threatened at the time by a real estate project that foresaw its destruction.

Kalthoum Bornaz has worked on several national and international films such as Rachid Ferchiou, Tarak Ben Ammar, Nacer Khémir, Claude Chabrol, Franco Zeffirelli and Serge Moati. She participates in the following films and serials: Gérard Vergez’s Friday or Wild Life, Roman Polanski’s Pirates, Mireille Darc’s Barbarian, Chabrol’s Magicians, Franco Zeffirelli’s Nazareth mini-series and Desert Scavengers Nacer Khémir.
