It was refurbished in the fifteenth, reinforced in 1557 by the Turkish pirate Dragut and frozen in its current configuration by a Spanish garrison of 6000 soldiers who came in 1560 to hunt the island the Turkish corsairs, before being exterminated the same year thereof. The nooks and crannies of the Borj and all the stories of piracy that it carries will delight the smallest visitors.

Rectangular in shape, the Borj is flanked by round and square towers. It was reached by a drawbridge over a moat insulation work. The front door opens into a vestibule defending the access to the inner courtyard which contains garrison remains that have succeeded in this place since ancient times.

A room with fireplace antiquarium, hosts various objects found on site as well as some very interesting information panels outlining the history of the island and the fort. We learn that the island has eight defensive borjs, the Turkish corsair Dragut was the admiral Barbarossa or it’s in Djerba, returning from a pilgrimage to Mecca, the famous explorer and diplomat Leon Africanus (real name Hassan bin Mohamed al Wazzan Ezzayati) was captured by Sicilian pirates who seized him for a gift to Pope Leo de Medici.

Round paths, for their part, offer beautiful views of the surroundings and the sea.
